Today, French winegrowers would be probably blocking all roads into Paris if their president did the same, but according to legend, Henry IV, King of France, rode through the Val di Susa in the early 1600s and on this occasion he enjoyed the area's then sweet red wine. This put the king's name to the little district’s main grape.

Previously, Doux d'Henry had been more prevalent in the zone, but now it is cultivated only in a very small area around the towns of S. Secondo di Pinerolo, Prarostino and Cantalupa, in the province of Torino.

Today. Pinerolese Doux d'Henry is a dry red wine with an intense ruby red color. The bouquet is fresh, fruity and inviting and the taste is soft, harmonious and sometimes slightly sweet.

The dry version is served locally throughout the meal, while the sweet is enjoyed with desserts.
