Before 2011, Alta Langa Spumante Rosso DOC was this zone's only (sparkling) red wine but after the 2014 DOCG regulation (by the EU), no red wines are produced in Alta Langa DOCG anymore.
However, Alta Langa Spumante Rosso DOC is a more or less intense ruby red, crystal clear, fully sparkling wine, with fine and persistent bubbles.
The scent is clean, fruity and complex with hints of yeasts, bread crumbs and vanilla. The flavor is wonderfully dry and well structured.
The grapes used for Alta Langa Spumante Rosso are Pinot Nero and/or Chardonnay (90-100%) with the permitted addition of local non-aromatic green grapes.
Served locally throughout the meal.
Alta Langa Spumante Rosso DOC is produced through the 'Metodo Classico', second fermentation in the bottle.
