It is mainly the local Piedmont grape Bonarda (85-100%) that is used for this wine, with the permitted addition of up to 15% local non-aromatic red grapes.
Piedmont Bonarda is an intense ruby red wine, with an intense and inviting scent and a dry or sweet taste, light tannic, fresh and sometimes bubbly or vivacious (Vivace).
The dry type pairs well with all meals, while the sweet type is enjoyed with desserts.
