This is a highly competent white made from the local white grape, Arneis (100%). The variety can be traced back to ancient times, and there are indications that, despite the somewhat limited production, it is currently undergoing a renaissance and Roero Arneis is now the leading white wine in Piedmont.
Roero Arneis is a straw-colored white wine, with a delicate, fresh and herbaceous fragrance, possibly with hints of almond. The taste is harmonious with a slight bitterness in the aftertaste.
In the local dialect the name Arneis means 'rascal' or 'rogue', as the grape earlier was rather erratic and fluctuating in quality. Furthermore, this vine would ripe faster than the the Nebbiolo vine, as the sweet Arneis grapes ripen earlier and thereby attracted the bees. This made it easier and less troublesome to pick the late ripening and important Nebbiolo grapes.
Along with Chardonnay, Arneis Roero is considered one of the future great Piedmont white wines.
There is also a Roero Arneis with a mark indication (cru).
