Dolcetto di Ovada Superiore DOCG (Ovada DOCG) is produced in the district bordering Liguria in the south, where the Dolcetto grape is so prevalent in, that it is also called Uva di Ovada (the Ovada grape). Although the type is slightly different, these wines are recognized as the biggest rivals to the strong Dolcetto cousins from Alba and Dogliani.

The red wine is based on the Dolcetto grape (100%).

A robust structure makes it possible to store Dolcetto di Ovada Superiore DOC a little longer, and in some cases it has been possible to store the wines for 10 years or more. It is believed that this is due to the wind from Liguria in the south, which creates a drier climate in the area.

Dolcetto di Ovada Superiore DOCG is a ruby red wine with purple reflections. The aroma is fruity, and the taste is dry, with a pleasant bitterness in the aftertaste. The type is considered little more textual than its other Dolcetto cousins and usually it has a longer aging potential.

Mandatory maturation is 1 year starting on November 1st. If a vineyard (cru or sori) is mentioned on the label, a minimum of 13% alcohol content and 20 months of aging is required. This type of wine is released on the market on July 1st in the second year followong the harvest. If 'Riserva' is mentioned on the label, a minimum 24 months is required and earliest release date is November 1st.
