In a highly restricted area in the municipalities of Baldissero Torinese, Montaldo Torinese and Pavarolo and parts of Andezono, Arignano, Castiglione Torinese, Chieri, Marentino and Pino Torinese, we find the local red dessert wine, Collina Torinese Pelaverga DOC (or Collina Torinese Cari DOC).
The wine is made from the acidic grape, Pelaverga (Cari) (85-100%), with the permitted addition of local non-aromatic red grapes (15%).
The result is a beautiful, cherry-colored wine with a nice and special, aromatic scent of Pelaverga grape. The taste is sweet, welcoming and distinctive.
The alcohol content must be at least of 10%, of which at least 5% must be made from the grape’s own residual sugar.
Collina Torinese Pelaverga DOC is a great dessert wine which, unfortunately, is rarely seen outside the zone's boundaries.
That Italy in 2011 was the worlds largest wine producer?
