Barbera is a major grape in Piedmont, and it is used in the production of this red Colli Tortonesi Barbera DOC (85-100%) to which it is permitted the addition of up to 15% local non-aromatic blue grapes.
The result is a dark, ruby red wine which with age obtains garnet reflections. The bouquet is pleasantly vinous, with a persistent and characteristic scent.
Colli Tortonesi Barbera DOC is dry, fresh and at times bubbly (Vivace). It may be robust, but with age it rounds its finesse and becomes softer.
A barrel aged Colli Tortonesi Barbera Riserva DOC is also produced with a mandatory maturation period of 24 months beginning on November 1st of the year of the harvest.
