The white wine Alto Adige/Südtiroler Pinot Bianco DOC can also be seen under the name Alto Adige/Südtiroler Weissburgunder DOC, and is often underestimated because it suffers a bit from the popularity of the Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay wines.
The thing is, Alto Adige/Südtiroler Pinot Bianco DOC (or Weissburgunder) can make quite an impression as it ages more than it does as a young wine. The reason is the grape composition, the basic grape, the Pinot Bianco (85-100%), with very specific ability of retaining its youthful freshness. There can be added local white grapes (0-15%).
Alto Adige/Südtiroler Pinot Bianco DOC (or Weissburgunder) is a straw-yellow white wine, with green reflections. The scent is inviting and typical, while the taste is slightly bitter and comfortably acidic. This is a tasty and distinctive type of wine.
Alto Adige/Südtiroler Pinot Bianco Spumante DOC is also available. It has fine persistent bubbles and a straw yellow color with green reflections. The aroma is refined and delicate, with hints of yeast, while the taste is mellow. The “Extra Brut” is dry, while the “Brut” is semi-sweet.
This wine must have a minimum alcohol content of 11.5%.
