The wine is also known as Südtirol/Südtiroler Merlot DOC.
Alto Adige Merlot DOC is a ruby red wine with a pleasant, distinctive and slightly grassy scent. The taste is dry and fresh, with a slightly herbaceous aftertaste.
An aged type, Alto Adige Merlot Riserva DOC, is also available.
If the label mentions “Vigna” (Gewächs or Wachstum), followed by the name of a place, it refers to a specific vineyard area or a “micro zone”.
The wine is a good accompaniment of sausages, pasta, brassato al Merlot (local meat dish) and soft cheeses.
