Alto Adige Valle Venosta Riesling DOC is a white wine made from the Riesling grape (85-100%), with the permitted addition of local white grapes (0-15%).
This is a straw-yellow white wine, with green reflections. The scent is delicate, inviting and distinctive, while the taste is dry, fresh and pleasantly acidic.
The wine can be found under the name Südtirol/Südtiroler Valle Venosta Riesling DOC.
Alto Adige Valle Venosta Riesling Riserva is also available, with an aging period of minimum 2 years, starting with October 1st of the harvesting year. The minimum alcohol content is 11.5%.
The wine is also available as “Passito” or “Vendemmia Tardiva” (late harvest), in which case the grapes are dried before pressing. Both types range from semi-sweet to sweet and they are rich and harmonious. The “Passito” type must have a minimum alcohol content of 16%, whereas the “Vendemmia Tardiva” is required to have a minimum of 13.5% alcohol.
Both types must age until June 1st of the year following the harvest before being released on the market.
If the label mentions “Vigna” (Gewächs or Wachstum), followed by the name of a place, it refers to a specific vineyard area or a “micro zone”.
The wine combines perfectly with light pasta, fish dishes, soup and semi-hard or soft cheeses.
