The main grape variety used for this wine is Veltiner (85-100%), with the permitted addition of local white grapes (0-15%).
Alto Adige Valle Isarco Veltiner DOC is a pale, straw-yellow wine with green reflections. The scent is vinous, with a light, delicate bouquet, characteristic of the grape. The taste is dry, fresh, fruity, typical, with good body.
The wine is also known as Südtirol/Südtiroler Valle Isarco Veltiner DOC. When the label mentions “di Bressanone” (Brixner), it means that the grapes originated in the vineyards of the municipalities of Bressanone, Naz-Sciaves and Varna.
A Riserva type is also produced, with an aging period of minimum 2 years, starting with October 1st of the harvesting year. The minimum alcohol content is 11.5%.
Alto Adige Valle Isarco Veltiner DOC is also available as “Passito” or “Vendemmia Tardiva” (late harvest), in which case the grapes are dried into raisins before pressing. Both types range from semi-sweet to sweet and they are rich and harmonious. The “Passito” type must have a minimum alcohol content of 16%, whereas the “Vendemmia Tardiva” is required to have a minimum of 13.5% alcohol.
Both types must age until June 1st of the year following the harvest before being released on the market.
If the label mentions “Vigna” (Gewächs or Wachstum), followed by the name of a place, it refers to a specific vineyard area or a “micro zone”.
The wine combines perfectly with light antipasti, fish or egg dishes, as well as with soft cheeses.
