Alto Adige Valle Isarco Riesling DOC is a white wine made from Riesling grapes (85-100%), with the permitted addition of local white grapes (0-15%).
This is a straw-colored wine, with green reflections. The scent is delicate, inviting and characteristic of the grape, while the taste is dry, fresh, full-bodied and slightly tannic.
The wine can be found under the name Südtirol/Südtiroler Valle Isarco Riesling DOC. When the label mentions “di Bressanone” (Brixner), it means that the grapes originated in the vineyards of the municipalities of Bressanone, Naz-Sciaves and Varna.
A Riserva type is also produced, with an aging period of minimum 2 years, starting with October 1st of the harvesting year. The minimum alcohol content is 11.5%.
Alto Adige Valle Isarco Riesling DOC is also available as “Passito” or “Late harvest grape” (late harvest), in which case the grapes are dried into raisins before pressing. Both types range from semi-sweet to sweet and they are rich and harmonious. The “Passito” type must have a minimum alcohol content of 16%, whereas the “Vendemmia Tardiva” is required to have a minimum of 13.5% alcohol. Both types must age until June 1st of the year following the harvest before being released on the market.
If the label mentions “Vigna” (Gewächs or Wachstum), followed by the name of a place, it refers to a specific vineyard area or a “micro zone”.
The wine is a good accompaniment of fish dishes and soft cheeses.
