Compared to other zones in Italy, Alto Adige offers, through the Pinot Grigio grape, a more flowery and often more fragile white wine. Traditionally, it is a simple vinification process, the wine having a bright, bronze-like color, with a nice aroma and a soft texture.
Alto Adige/Südtiroler Pinot Grigio DOC, or Alto Adige Rulander DOC as it is also called, is a straw yellow colored wine, with a moderate fragrance. The taste is dry, pleasant, rich, balanced and distinctive. The minimum alcohol content in Alto Adige/Südtiroler Pinot Grigio (or Rulander) DOC is 11.5%.
The wine is made from Pinot Grigio grapes (85-100%), with the permitted addition of local white grapes (0-15%).
Finally, a Alto Adige / Südtiroler Pinot Grigio/Rulander Spumante DOC is also available. It has a fine persistent bubbles, and it is straw-yellow colored, with green reflections. The scent is refined and delicate with hints of yeast, and the taste is mellow.
The “Extra Brut” is dry, but the “Brut” is semi sweet. The minimum alcohol content is 11.5%.
