This white wine is made from the grape with the same name, namely Pinot Bianco (85-100%), with the permitted addition of local white grapes (0-15%).
Alto Adige Valle Venosta Pinot Bianco DOC is a straw colored white wine, with green-yellow reflections. The aroma is inviting and characteristic, while the taste is pleasantly bitter, comfortably acidic, tasty and distinctive.
The wine is also known as Südtirol/Südtiroler Vinschgau Weissburgunder DOC.
There is also an Alto Adige Valle Venosta Pinot Bianco Riserva DOC, which is aged for a minimum of 2 years, starting with October 1st of the year it was harvested. The minimum alcohol content is 11.5%.
Alto Adige Valle Venosta DOC is also available as “Passito” or “Vendemmia Tardiva” (late harvest), in which case the grapes are dried into raisins before pressing. Both types range from semi-sweet to sweet and they are rich and harmonious. The “Passito” type must have a minimum alcohol content of 16%, whereas the “Vendemmia Tardiva” is required to have a minimum of 13.5% alcohol.
Both types must age until June 1st of the year following the harvest before being released on the market.
If the label mentions “Vigna” (Gewächs or Wachstum), followed by the name of a place, it refers to a specific vineyard area or a “micro zone”.
The wine is a good accompaniment for light pasta dishes, vegetable risotto, barley soup and soft cheeses.
