This white wine is made from the local Kerner grape variety (85-100%), with the permitted addition of local white grapes (0-15%).
Alto Adige Valle Venosta Kerner DOC is a straw-colored white wine, with green reflections. The aroma is delicate and slightly aromatic, while the taste is distinctive, dry, fresh and fruity.
The wine is also known as Südtiroler/Südtirol Vinschgau Kerner DOC.
A “Riserva” type is also produced, where the wine has an aging period of minimum 2 years starting with October 1st of the harvesting year. 11.5% is the minimum alcohol content.
From the same grapes there is produced a dessert wine, Alto Adige Valle Venosta Kerner Passito DOC, and a late harvest Alto Adige Valle Venosta Kerner Vendemmia Tardiva DOC, in which case the grapes are dried into raisins before pressing. Both types range from semi-sweet to sweet and they are rich and harmonious. The “Passito” type must have a minimum alcohol content of 16%, whereas the “Vendemmia Tardiva” is required to have a minimum of 13.5% alcohol.
Both types must age until June 1st of the year following the harvest before being released on the market.
If the label mentions “Vigna” (Gewächs or Wachstum), followed by the name of a place, it refers to a specific vineyard area or a “micro zone”.
Best enjoyed with light pasta, various fish dishes, clear soups and soft cheeses.
