Read moreIn the southeastern part of Tuscany we find the relatively new DOC zone of Monteregio di Massa Marittima (1994), situated in the northern part of the Grosseto province.
Monteregio di Massa Marittima DOC is a large appellation. The district stretches from Grosseto all the way up to Alta Maremma, and covers the whole area in Massa Marittima and Monterotondo Marittimo, along with parts of Roccastrada, Gavorrano, Castiglione della Pescaia, Scarlino and Follonica.
In this hilly terrain, they've developed a wine production that is closely tied to Massa Marittima's history and the medieval villages that decorate the hilltops in this rather harsh country. They've cultivated wine here since the beginning of time.
Nine different wine types are produced here, and primary importance is placed on the Sangiovese-based Rosso types, but this area is also home to Tuscany's best white wines. Finally, we also fine the obligatory, golden Vin Santo types, including a very ample red dessert wine.
