Chianti Montespertoli DOCG is grown around the city Montespertoli, and even though the area is actually located in the Colli Fiorentini sub-zone, of which it was a part until 2002, it still has its own zone with corresponding rules and regulations. It's a bit hard to understand for people without the local patriotism in their blood, since the differences from the neighboring zone are a bit hard to see.
Montespertoli is the second-smallest sub-zone in Chianti and the 1997 vintage was the first to hit the market.
Mandatory aging: Until March 1 after the harvest year; Chianti Montespertoli Riserva DOCG 12.5% alcohol concentration and a min. 2 years aging, of which 3 months in the bottle.
Shelf life is up to 5 years. Riserva 10 years or more.
Chianti Montespertoli DOCG is a sub-zone under Chianti DOCG. Additional background, history and facts about Chianti DOCG can be found here [read more…]
