Montecucco DOC

The Montecucco zone covers a range of comuni in the Grosseto province, including Cinigiano, Civitella Paganico, Campagnatico, Castel del Piano, Roccalbenga, Arcidosso and Seggiano.

It's unclear whether it's the proximity to its famous northern neighbor, Brunello di Montepulciano, that attracts wine producers, but it is certain that wine production in Montecucco has developed at a break-neck pace, especially since the rewarding of its DOC in 1998, where we've seen a significant improvement.

This is not the place where people experiment with smart shortcuts and trendy oenologists from Northern Italy. They focus on traditional grape varieties and production methods, but the result, nonetheless, is a number of quite interesting wines, where the Sangiovese-based red wines especially dominate.

Experts believe Montecucco has an interesting future.
