The majority of producers primarily use Sangiovese (50-100%) for this red wine, but regulations allow for the addition of up to 50% other, local red grapes.
Since this wine is practically a free-for-all, the result is a widely varied wine that can be difficult to describe in general terms. Nevertheless, the wine is a more or less intense ruby red, and the color tends to become more garnet with age. The aroma is always intense and characteristic, and the taste is dry and ample.
There is also a Montescudaio Rosso Riserva.
That Italy in 2011 was the worlds largest wine producer?
