The long name alone, Colli di Scandiano e di Canossa Lambrusco Grasparossa DOC, should be able to raise this sparkling red wine above the ordinary level, which it does, and pretty well too. The wine is among the best Lambrusco-based wines in the Emilia-Romagna region.
This wine is, of course, made of Lambrusco Grasparossa grapes (85-100%) with permission to add with Lambrusco Mariani and/or Lambrusco Monterrico and/or Malbo Gentile, Ancelotta and/or Croatina (0-15%).
The wine has a ruby red color and a vinous, quite fragrant bouquet. The taste, available as dry, sweetish or sweet, is balanced and inviting. This Lambrusco based wine is either semi-sparkling or still.
In Emilia-Romagna, Lambrusco wines are enjoyed throughout the meal. The sweet types, however, are enjoyed with dessert.
