To motor racing enthusiasts, Imola is popular especially for its racetrack, where the renowned Formula 1 driver, Ayrton Senna, unfortunately lost his life in a fatal accident during the San Marino Grand Prix, on May 1st, 1994.
However, Colli d’mola DOC extends over the hills of Romagna and it includes the towns of Castel San Pietro Terme, Dozza, Imola, Borgo Tossignano, Casalfiumanese, Ozzano dell’Emilia, all located in the province of Bologna.
There are 8 basic types of wine under the DOC, and just as in the case of other zones in Emilia Romagna, there are always sparkling variants, highly appreciated in these parts of the country.
