All the way back in the 15th century the Valdinievole district belonged to the city-state Lucca, and at that time was known for the excellent quality of its wines, which were among the Grand Duke Francesco II and Leopoldo I's preferred beverages. Both gentlemen were so taken with the region's white wine that they issued regulations concerning the wine's production and sale.
As early as 1884, Bianco della Valdinievole received its first international recognition, but the most significant came in 1976, when the white wine received its DOC classification as recognition of the considerable development work wine cultivators had introduced.
Today Bianco della Valdinievole is produced on the fields between the cities Montecatini and Pescia in the Pistoia province, and it has managed to find a spot on the large, international as well as national markets, especially Switzerland, West Germany and Great Britain.

Bianco della Valdinievole is also produced as a Vin Santo in a dry (Secco), semi-dry (Semi-Secco) and sweet version (Dolce).
Color-wise the Vin Santo ranges from straw yellow to a more or less golden amber. The aroma is intense, ethereal and typical. The taste is balanced and smooth with a slightly bitter aftertaste.
