A rare one, but Donnici Rosso can be a quite refreshing wine when enjoyed young, preferably lightly chilled.
This wine is produced from a somewhat exotic blend of Gaglioppo (locally known as Magliocco or Mantonico Nero) (50-100%), Greco Nero (10-20%), Malvasia Bianca and/or Pecorello Bianco, Montonico Bianco, Greco Bianco (min. 20%) along with other local varieties (of which max. 10% white and 20% red grapes).
The colour varies from ruby to cherry red, while the fragrance is vinous and agreeable, the taste ample, dry and harmonious. Minimum alcohol strength, 12.5%
An interesting Donnici Rosso Riserva is also produced.
Aging: Riserva 2 months [surely 2 years? AC], including 6 months in wooden casks and a further 6 months bottle aging, beginning on the first of November in the harvest year.
Aging potentail: Up to 6 years. Riserva 6-7 years.
That Italy in 2011 was the worlds largest wine producer?
