Reggiano Rosso DOC is a red wine grown on the vineyards of the municipalities of Cadelbosco Sopra, Montecchio, Campegine, Sant’Ilario d’Enza, Gualtieri and Cavriago.
This is a newer Lambrusco type of wine, made of Ancolletta grapes (50-60%), with the permitted addition of an entire range of Lambrusco varieties, including Lambrusco Salamino and/or Lambrusco Marani, Lambrusco Montericco, Lambrusco Maestri, Lambrusco di Sorbara, Lambrusco Grasparossa, Lambrusco a Foglia Frastagliata and, surprisingly, also Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon or Marzemino grapes (40-50%). One may wonder why the producers did not include another thirty grape varieties to this wine…
Nevertheless, the very impressive number of grapes provides a very inviting and fruity wine. Although Reggiano Rosso DOC is mostly dry, some sweetish types are also available and they can be found as still and as Frizzante. The scent is distinctive, fruity, floral and quite rich.
The dry Reggiano Rosso DOC is best served with most meals, while the sweet types are best enjoyed with desserts.
That Italy in 2011 was the worlds largest wine producer?
