Lamezia Rosso has difficulty raising itself above average. The combination of the Thyrennian microclimate and the Sicilian grape, Nerello Mascalese, which gives a rather light wine of weak character, especially noticeable in Novello varieties, doesn't help matters.
Nevertheless, there are signs of improvement in the reds from Lamezia, particularly the Riservas.
Lamezia is produced from the grapes Nerello Mascarese and/or Nerello Capuccio (30-50%), Gaglioppo and/or Magliocco (25-35%), Greco Nero and/or Marsigliana (25-35%) and other authorised varieties (0-20%).
The wine is cherry red with greater or lesser intensity, acquiring a ruby tint with age. It has a delicate, inviting aroma, at times very fruity, and the taste is dry with good ampleness and balance. Is usually very soft.
Lamezia Rosso Riserva is also produced.
