The most recent DOC designation in Calabria, Bivongi Rosso is cultivated around the town of Bivongi on the Ionian coast of the Calabrian peninsula.
The red is based on the Gaglioppo grape (known locally as Magliocco) and/or Greco Nero (local name, Maglioccone)(30-50%), Nocera and/or Calabrese (locally, Nero d'Avola) (30-50%) and/or Castiglione (30-50%) with permission to add up to 15% non-aromatic grapes.
The colour is more or less intense [colour missing here?AC], tending to garnet with age. The bouquet is vinous, characteristic and delicate. The taste is dry, harmonious, appealing and very fruity when young.
A riserva, Bivongi Rosso Riserva, can also be found.
