Read moreFirst nominated in 1996, Bivongi DOC is a relative newcomer. With its isolated location on the tip of Italy's boot the zone is one of the so-called Ionian DOC's.
The zone takes its name from the town of Bivongi and encompasses a cultivation area around Guardavalle in the Cantanzaro province of Reggio Calabria. Bivongi has yet to produce great wines.
It can be a challenge for the uninitiated to distiguish between the unusual grape names. The difficulty lies in the fact that they often have local designations, unknown in other regions. We'll try to guide you with some parenthetical information accompanying the wine descriptions.
