This red wine is made from the same grapes as the non-barrel aged Castel del Monte Rosso DOC, namely either Uva di Troia, Aglianico or Montepulciano (65-100%) with permission to supplement with local red grapes (0-35%).
Castel del Monte Rosso Riserva DOC is a pretty robust red wine with an almost austere expression, but aging, however, has taken off some of its robustness. The wine is dry, with balanced tannins and a vinous, pleasant scent, characteristic of its type. All in all the blend gives amazing results, especially the barrel aged type.
The aging requires a mandatory period of 2 years, of which 1 year must be in wooden barrels. The aging process can commence no sooner than January 1st of the year following the harvest.
Castel del Monte Rosso Riserva DOC is an interesting wine for storing, which, with enough patience, can be enjoyed with red meat or lamb.
