This red wine is made of the same grape as the non-aged Castel del Monte Aglianico Rosso DOC, namely the Aglianico grape (90-100%) with the permitted addition of other local, non-aromatic red grapes (0-10%).
The color ranges from dark ruby to garnet red, and the aroma of the wine is delicate and quite distinctive. The taste is dry, full-bodied and balanced.
The required storage period for Castel del Monte Aglianico Rosso Riserva DOC is 2 years, starting from January 1st of the year following the harvest. The wine must be kept in barrels for at least one year.
The storage potential is of 6-7 years.
Enjoyed to red meat and seasonal cheeses.
There is also a Castel del Monte Rosato DOC, which does not quite reach the quality of the red wine.
‘Rubicolo di Rivera’ from the Rivera winery is especially promising.
