Romagna Albana Passito Riserva DOCG has the same grape composition as the dry Romagna Albana Secco DOCG, namely the Albana grape (95-100%) with the permitted addition of other local green grapes (0-5%). It is this type of Passito, and the less aged Romagna Albana Passito DOCG, that draw the attention of the arbiters of taste.
Romagna Albana Passito Riserva DOCG is produced from semi-dried grapes, which, back in the day, were obtained in special drying houses, a few months before Christmas. Today, however, it seems that more and more producers leave the grapes to dry on the plant, so they would be attacked by the so-called “noble rot”.
The color ranges from brilliant straw yellow to golden, with amber reflections. The aroma is intense, with clear, fruity notes, and the taste is sweet, full-bodied, and intensely velvety, with a slightly acid aftertaste.
Hold on tight: the minimum alcohol content should be 24%. No wonder Romagna Albana Passito Riserva DOCG perfectly accompanies (very) sweet desserts or just a quiet moment, away from the hustle and bustle.
The mandatory aging period for Romagna Albana Passito Riserva DOCG is 13 months, and the wine may be released on the market only after December 1st of the year following the harvest.
The aging potential is 6 years or more.
