This Riserva is based on the same grape varieties used for the unaged red, Verbicaro Rosso, and like its little brother is cultivated in the northwestern part of Calabria. The grape blend is dominated by Gaglioppo (locally, Guarnaccia Nera) and/or Greco Nero (60-80%), Malvasia Bianca, Guarnaccia Bianca, Greco Bianco (20-40%) as well as other permitted varieties.
The fragrance of Verbicaro Rosso is vinous, delicate and characteristic. The colour is ruby of varying strength, palate agreeable, dry, velvety and at times lightly aromatic.
Verbicaro Rosato, a rosé, is also found.
Aging potential is 5-6 years or more.
