In northwestern Calabria we find Verbicaro Rosso, based on the grape varieties common to the region, namely Gaglioppo (known locally as Guarnaccia Nera) and/or Greco Nero (60-80%), Malvasia Bianca, Guarnaccia Bianca, Greco Bianco (20-40%) as well as authorised variants (0-20%).
The bouquet is vinous, delicate and characteristic. The colour is ruby with varying intensity, the taste agreeable, dry, velvety and at times lightly aromatic.
Also found are Verbicaro Rosso Riserva and Verbicaro Rosato.
Can be kept for up to 3 years.
