This red wine comes from the subzone, Arnad-Montjovet DOC, and is produced from the same grapes as the less-aged Valle d’Aosta Arnad-Montjovet Rosso DOC. It also comes from the low part of the valley.
The wine can be a bit reminiscent of the Nebbiolo wines from Piemonte and must contain Nebbiolo (70-100%), along with Dolcetto and/or Vien-de-Nus, Freisa, Pinot Noir or other local red grapes (0-30%).
The wine is cultivated around the cities of Arnad, Montjovet, Verrès, Issogne, Challand-Saint Victor, Hône and Champdepraz.
The wine is ruby red with garnet reflections, and the aroma is harmonious with hints of almonds. The taste is smooth, with a discreetly bitter aftertaste and can be a bit similar to Donnas from the same region.
The mandatory aging period for Superiore (or Supérieur) is 1 year.
