Friuli Colli Orientali Schioppettino di Prepotto DOC is a red wine and an autonomous subzone under the Friuli Colli Orientali DOC main zone. The production is centered around the municipality of Prepotto, as well as in parts of the Cialla DOC subzone.
The wine is made of Schioppettino grapes (85-100%), with the permitted addition of local red grapes (0-15%). The grapes must be handpicked.
Friuli Colli Orientali Schioppettino di Prepotto DOC has a period of aging of no less than 1 year, only in barrels. It’s released on the market after September 1st of the second year following the harvest.
The result is a ruby red wine, with purple hints. The scent is typical and elegant, with a touch of spices and berries, while the taste is velvety, full-bodied and dry with green pepper hints.
A barrel-aged Friuli Colli Orientali Schioppettino di Prepotto Riserva DOC is also available with longer aging requirements (see that).
Enjoyed with heavy dishes.
