Refosco is a very interesting local grape, which qualitatively surpasses the imported Merlot and Cabernet grapes. This grape variety, named after its red stems, provides this area with a purple wine which turns to garnet with age. The grape composition includes a minimum of 85% Refosco grapes, with the permitted addition of local red grapes (0-15%).
Friuli Colli Orientali Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso DOC has a distinctive scent of herbs and fruits, as well as a slightly bitter finish. This is a full-bodied wine with mild acid, which reached its maturity after 4-6 years.
A barrel-aged Friuli Colli Orientali Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso Riserva DOC is also available, with minimum 11% alcohol content and a period of aging of no less than 2 years, beginning on November 1st of the harvesting year.
The aging potential of the barrel-aged type is up to 6 years.
