This red wine has the same grape composition as the non barrel-aged Friuli Colli Orientali Refosco di Faedis DOC, namely Refosco Nostrano grapes (85-100%), with the permitted addition of local red grapes (0-15%). The grapes must be handpicked.
The barrel-aged Friuli Colli Orientali Refosco di Faedis Riserva DOC is both a red wine and a subzone within the Friuli Colli Orientali DOC main zone. The production is centered around the municipalities of Faedis, Nimis, Attimis, Torreano, Povoletto and Tarcento.
Friuli Colli Orientali Refosco di Faedis Riserva DOC is a deep red tending to garnet red wine with purple hints; the garnet red color becomes more intense with age. The bouquet is vinous, with a more or less intense bouquet of wild berries. The taste, fruity and fresh, has moderate tannins and a good body.
The required maturation is 3 years in wooden casks, beginning on January 1st of the year following the harvest.
Enjoyed with sausages, polenta with game or local cheeses.
