Although the local Pignolo grape (85-100%) had a fairly anonymous existence for several years, the red wine made from this variety, in recent years has emerged as a wine with its own stubborn, individual character. There may be added other local red grapes (0-15%).
Friuli Colli Orientali Pignolo DOC is a light ruby red wine, which turns to garnet with age. The wine has a berry and fruity scent that develops after 4-5 years.
A barrel-aged Friuli Colli Orientali Pignolo Riserva DOC is also available, with minimum 11% alcohol content and a period of aging of no less than 3 years, beginning on November 1st of the harvesting year.
The aging potential is up to 4 years or even more for the barrel-aged type.
