Friuli Colli Orientali Cabernet DOC is a soft, round and pleasant red wine, best if served within the first 2-3 years. The wine is either made from the rarely seen Cabernet Franc or from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes (85-100%) with the permitted addition of local red grapes (0-15%).
Friuli Colli Orientali Cabernet DOC has a ruby red color, which turns to garnet red with age, an intense, grape-like, typical scent as well as a dry and balanced taste, with good body and a slightly bitter aftertaste.
The aging potential is up to 3 years, however, from certain producers the wines made from the Cabernet Sauvignon grape are top quality with an aging potential of up to 10 years.
A barrel-aged Friuli Colli Orientali Cabernet Riserva DOC is also available, with minimum 11% alcohol content and a mandatory period of aging of no less than 2 years.
