This dessert wine is made from the same grapes as Controguerra Passito Rosso DOC, which means Montepulciano (70-100%). It is allowed to add local blue grapes (0-30%).
Controguerra Passito Rosso Annoso DOC is produced in the same manner as both its little brother and the white Controguerra Passito Bianco Annoso DOC. The grapes are selected, carefully plucked, and then dried in special drying rooms or lofts on shelves of straw mats, netting or the like. The grapes are pressed between November 1 of the harvest year and March 31 of the following year. The process is called Appassimento.
The color is granate, tending to brick red, and the aroma is etherial and distinctive. The taste is balanced and velvety.
The mandatory aging period for Controguerra Passito Rosso Annoso DOC is 30 months on 500 liter barrels (Caratelli), and the minimum alcohol content is 14%.
Goes wonderfully with desserts or as a meditation wine.
