This red wine can be compared to the other Schioppettino-based wine from the main zone. Friuli Colli Orientali Cialla Schioppettino DOC is grown further north, around the city of Cialla and in the subzone bearing the same name. The grape is Schioppettino (100%).
Friuli Colli Orientali Cialla Schioppettino DOC is an intense ruby red wine, sometimes with garnet hints. The scent is elegant, balanced and with notes of berries. The taste is velvety, warm, full-bodied, dry, with notes of green pepper, and it is considered softer and more intense than the wine’s namesake from the main zone.
The required aging is 3 years.
A barrel-aged Friuli Colli Orientali Cialla Schioppettino Riserva DOC is also available, with a period of aging of no less than 4 years, beginning on January 1st of the year following the harvest. The minimum alcohol content is 12% for both the barrel-aged and the non barrel-aged type.
Enjoyed with osso buco and polenta or cheeses.
The storing potential is 5 years.
