The red wine Friuli Colli Orientali Cialla Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso DOC can, in many ways, be compared to the wine made from the same grape from the Friuli Colli Orientali DOC main zone. The grapes are grown around the city of Cialla, and the wine differs from its namesake from the main zone especially by having greater mellowness, more bite and having more acid, likely due to the slightly tougher aging technique and the higher alcohol content.
The correct and rather long name is Friuli Colli Orientali Cialla Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso DOC, in which the last part refers to the grape Refosco dal Peduncolo (100%), which provides the wine with a garnet red color, with purple hints. The wine has a distinctive scent of herbs and berries, and a dry, full-bodied, warm taste, with a slightly bitter aftertaste.
The required maturation is 3 years.
Enjoyed with heavy dishes.
A barrel-aged Friuli Colli Orientali Cialla Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso Riserva DOC is also available, with a period of aging of no less than 4 years before being released on the market. Both the barrel-aged type and the non barrel-aged type must have 12% minimum alcohol content.
That Italy in 2011 was the worlds largest wine producer?
