Squinzano Rosso DOC is a convincing quality red wine made from Negroamaro grapes (70-100%) and Malvasia Nera di Brindisi and/or Malvasia di Lecce, Sangiovese (0-30%). However, the Sangiovese grapes are used in a proportion of maximum 15%.
The wine is grown in the lower part of the heel tip of Apulia, around the Salento cities of Squinzano, San Pietro Vernotico, Torchiarolo and Novoli, as well as other smaller municipalities in the province of Lecce.
Squinzano Rosso DOC is an intense and distinctive wine, with a dry and full-bodied yet velvety taste, which after a few years develops a robust strength.
On the same grapes, there is also the very interesting Squinzano Rosso Riserva DOC, aged in wooden barrels, with a fine aging potential.
The aging potential is up to 5 years.
A rosé type, Squinzano Rosato DOC, is also available.
