This interesting red wine is produced from the same grapes as the non-barrel aged Salice Salentino Rosso DOC, which means Negroamaro grapes (80-100%), with the permitted addition of Malvasia Nera di Brindisi and/or Malvasia di Lecce (0-20%). The wine is grown around the city of Salice Salentino, west of Lecce.
Salice Salentino Rosso Riserva DOC is an intense, full-bodied and velvety red wine, with a slightly bitter undertone and, if it originates from certain producers, it has an impressive aging capacity and durability. The wine turns brick red with age.
Mandatory aging is 2 years, with at least 1 year in wooden barrels.
Aging potential is 6-7 years or more.
Among the Salento red wines, Salice Salentino Rosso Riserva DOC forms a class by itself.
