As is also the case with the neigbouring wine Terre di Casauria DOC in the Terre dei Vestini subzone, they have also also attempted to tame Abruzzo's Montepulciano grape, by trying to infuse it with more elegance and style. And we have to say that they've succeeded. Both with the aforementioned and this wine, the producers have refined the wine by refining the aging process and by this, they've succeeded in softening the wine's slightly harsh character.
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Terre dei Vestini DOC is made from Montepulciano (90-100%) with the permission to add local varieties (0-10%). The grapes are cultivated entirely or partially in 20 municipalities in the Pescara province, including Capelle sul Tavo, Catignano, Moscufo, Penne, Città Sant'Angelo, Loreto Aprutino and Montesilvano.
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Terre dei Vestini DOC is an intense ruby red wine with shades of violet and a tendency to become more granate red with age. The aroma is intense and etherial, with a hint of harvested red fruits, dried herbs and spices.
The minimum alcohol concentration is 12,5%. The wine has a mandatory ageing period of 18 months, of which 9 should be in a barrels and 3 months in the bottle.
If the wine has aged for a minimum of 24 months, 9 of which in barrels and 6 months in bottle, it gets the distinction of Terre dei Vestini Riserva DOC. The minimum alchohol concentration of this variety is 13%.
That Italy in 2011 was the worlds largest wine producer?
