This is a powerful and extremely robust red wine, grown in the heart of the Salento peninsula, around the city of Copertino, made from Negroamaro (70-100%) with the addition of Malvasia Nera di Brindisi and Malvasia Nera di Lecce and/or Montepulciano (0-30%), with a maximum of 15% Sangiovese.
The color is deep ruby red, which turns to brick red as the wine ages. The taste is soft, full-bodied, with good flavor and a long pleasant bitter undertone. It is a very generous wine which improves after storing 4 or sometimes up to 10 years, depending on the vintage. The required minimum alcohol strength is 12%.
Copertino Rosso DOC can be one of the area’s most delicious wines, especially the barrel aged Copertino Rosso Riserva DOC, which requires a minimum of 12.5% alcohol strength.
Aging potential is up to 4 years.
