The red wine, Biferno Rosso, is produced from the grapes, Montepulciano (70-80%) and Aglianico (15-20%), with permission to add local, non-aromatic red grapes (0-15%).
The wine is a more or less intense ruby red, that becomes more garnet red with age. It has an interesting and characteristic aroma, which after some years becomes more ethereal. The taste is dry, harmonious and smooth, with a, at times, slightly tannic aftertaste.
There is also a Biferno Rosso Superiore with a higher alcohol concentration, and an aged Riserva type.
Goes well with most everything on the table.
That Italy in 2011 was the worlds largest wine producer?
