As is the case with the northern neighbors in Abruzzo, this red wine is made from the Montepulciano grape (45-55%), with permission to add Sangiovese (45-55%) and additional, local red grapes (0-10%).
This is a more or less intense, ruby red wine with a pleasant and characteristic aroma. The taste is dry, harmonious, smooth and slightly tannic in the aftertaste.
Pentro d’Isernia Rosso is often drunken young, but the Riserva can be quite promising. However, so few bottles are produced, that the wine is practically unknown except by the locals.
Mandatory aging for the Riserva is 3 years.
